Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is Hire-a-Bike from Cycle Blackpool?
A. It is a 24 hr on street cycle hire service, providing bicycles for hire for visitors and residents from automated stations over the town.

Q. Where are the bikes / stations located?
A. There are now approx 50 stations across Blackpool - see the map for a full listing.

Q. How does it work?
A. Very simple. Buy a day ticket or lifetime membership from us and receive a membership number and PIN. Simply key in your membership number (or swipe your card) and PIN at any of the stations and select a bike to rent. Return the bike to any station.

Q. What about helmets?
A. Helmets are available for purchase from key locations. An up to date list of these locations is shown in the Info section of this website.

Q. I am a permanent member. Can I use a bike without my membership card or PIN number?
A. For security reasons you will need to have both your membership number and PIN number. We do not issue physical cards any more. You may change the PIN number to a 4 digit number that is more memorable for you - log into www.hourbike.com with your membership number and current PIN, and you can change your PIN online.

Q. What if I lose my card or forget my PIN?
A. Email us or call us and we will call you to verify your details and issue you with another card or PIN number.

Q. There aren't any bikes at the station.
A. There may be times when all the bikes are being used - or have been parked at other stations. It is normal for bikes from some locations to be used more frequently. Remember that you can check on availability via the map on www.hourbike.com/blackpool.

Q. I've noticed a bike at the station has been damaged.
A. If you find a bicycle that is damaged please tell us. If you have time it is useful if you can turn the saddle sideways to indicate to other people it is not to be used.

Q. What if the station where I want to park the bike is already full?
A. In this case lock the bike securely nearby using the combination lock, and call us to end your hire. The bike is your responsibility until you do this.

Q. What if there is a technical problem with the station I want to return the bike to?
A. In this case lock the bike securely nearby using the combination lock, and call us to end your hire. The bike is your responsibility until you do this.

Q. How long can I take a bike for?
A. If you buy a temporary membership over the phone you must return the bike to a station before midnight. After this point you will be liable for a £30 charge. If the bike is not returned within 48 hours we will consider it stolen and you will be liable for the full deposit. If you are a permanent member you can take the bike for as long as your credit lasts.
