Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What types of bikes are available?
A: We provide a "standard" bicycle which is specifically designed for the on street rental market. It has a step through frame and with seat adjustment caters for a wide range of rider sizes. It has fully enclosed hub brakes and gears, LED lighting systems and a large front alloy basket. The locking mechanismis such that it can be attached to almost any bicycle however, making the system very adaptable is a specific bike is required to be used.

Q: What about security?
A: Every Hourbike is securely locked to its stand using a fixed hardened steel lock that is extremely difficult to cut. This can only be unlocked using Hourbike's unique system and 'locking unit'. A bike cannot be taken without the customer being registered in the system. Usually, for non members, a security deposit is held on credit card. Whilst using the bike, a portable bike lock is provided for securing it in the middle of a journey.

Q: Are the bikes maintained?
A: Yes, every Hourbike will be fully maintained by cycle mechanics to ensure the users' safety. Hourbike's 'live' online system allows the monitoring of the bikes usage and helps to ensure repairs are carried out as soon as possible.

Q: How do I get started with Hourbike?
A: As a member of the public wanting to rent a bike, the easiest way is to call the relevant number associated with each city scheme. Either a day ticket or membership can be purchased over the phone, or memberships can be done on the registration section of the Hourbike website and  usually takes only a few minutes. Once a ticket or membership number and PIN has been issued, bikes can be rented.

Q: How are credits added (for a pay-as-you-go scheme)?
A: By credit card in advance—simply call Hourbike to top up your Hourbike "credits".
